- Rugged new front fascia and grille design
- Increased towing capacity up to 7,150 pounds
- Larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen
- New Afterburn Orange paint option turns heads
- More standard safety features across all trims
Being an auto journalist, I have been looking forward to the release of the revised 2025 Nissan Frontier and here are the specifications of this midsize pick-up truck. Nissan has done some updates to make the Frontier relevant in a market that is slowly becoming saturated with new models.
The exterior is the greatest transformation; specifically, the Frontiers have been more conspicuous. The truck has been given a new front-end styling with a new hood, grille, and bumper, portraying the truck as a tough and capable workhorse. The squared-off look is further enhanced with newly styled 17-inch alloy wheels on the PRO-X and PRO-4X variants. But what has drawn my attention the most is the new Afterburn Orange paint option, which is as bright and bold as the car will look when driving on the road or trail.
Inside, the Nissan has received some improvements to the Comfort & Convenience category. Frontier models of 2025 have a telescoping steering wheel, an improvement over the previous year, which many customers reported as a problem. A larger 12” touch screen is available in the SV trim and above. A 3-inch touchscreen infotainment system is also introduced instead of the previous 9. 0-inch display. As per CarandDriver, this upgrade also adds wireless Android Auto while wireless Apple CarPlay has been available before, meaning that smartphone connectivity is as simple as it gets.
As per NissanNews, the 2025 Frontier has seen one of the largest boosts with the vehicle’s towing capacity. The maximum towing rating increased to 7,150 pounds, up from 6,640 pounds in the previous model. This improvement has placed Frontier in a better standing within midsize trucks and diversified usage in professional and recreational activities.
Nissan has also increased the number of models equipped with the best-selling Crew Cab long-wheelbase derivative. Previously found only on the PRO-4X model, this setup with a 6-foot bed is available in SV, PRO-4X, and SL. It also assigns more freedom to the buyers who can now select the right mix of the cab size and length of the bed they need.
This has also been the case for safety in the 2025 update. Driver assistance features are standard across all trims of the Frontier, with Nissan introducing some new ones. Others are Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Parking Sensor, High Beam Assist, and Intelligent Cruise Control. The new SL trim is also fitted with Traffic Sign Recognition as a standard on the car.
For off-road lovers, the PRO-4X trim receives an improvement in the Intelligent Around View Monitor system. The Off-Road Mode viewing function has been improved and now can be used at speeds up to 12 mph so that drivers can identify obstacles when they are driving through difficult terrains.
Mechanically, the 2025 Frontier remains the same with its 3.8 litre V6 engine with 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet torque. This powerplant is still used with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Some people could have expected mechanical changes to solve issues reported in fuel efficiency and transmission response. Still, it appears Nissan has altered other aspects of this model for this facelift.
When it comes to the pricing strategy, the information is still kept a secret as we are waiting for the release of the 2025 Frontier later this summer. Although many enhancements and new features exist, I would not be shocked to find a small rise across the trim levels.
In my view the 2025 Nissan Frontier is a good improvement of an already respectable midsize pickup truck. The new look, higher tow rating, and additional technology should help it remain a player in a segment with many new or updated models in the last couple of years. Although it is not a total redesign, these changes correct most of the flaws of the old model and should make the Frontier even more appealing to truck consumers.
While we wait for the chance to take the 2025 Frontier for a spin, I believe that Nissan has a good shot at scoring well in the midsize truck segment. One could not deny that Nissan has taken a lot of customer feedback and made changes where it matters. Whether it be for work or play, the updated Frontier seems ready to provide the utility and capability desired of it.
