The 2026 Ford Mustang is set to make a daring leap into the past, reviving the legendary Fox Body generation. With the fresh FX Appearance Package, Ford is explicitly drawing inspiration from the design of the legendary 1979–1993 generation of the Mustang, a redesign aimed at exciting both retro car enthusiasts and long-time Mustang lovers. Meanwhile, Ford’s heavy-duty side is also getting attention with the 2026 F-250 Super Duty, which brings fresh updates of its own.
Retro Revival with a Modern Twist
The FX Package is all about looks and flex. Ford has done me well with the tribute to the Fox Body’s sharp, angular design. Featuring 17-inch turbine-style wheels that closely resemble the 5-lug found on all the retros in the ’80s and a new set of exclusive paint colors such as “Vapor Silver,” “Oxford White Revival,” and “Crimson Glow Metallic,” the FX Mustang is different in all of the best ways.
And if you look closely, badging on the fenders and rear bumper spells out “FX Edition” in a chunky retro typeface that echoes the script on the original Fox Body. Inside, the retro theme is carried through with two-tone upholstery and retro badging on the dashboard, which reads “1980s Inspired – Limited FX Series.” Even the digital gauge cluster is optional, featuring a retro skin that aims to remind users of the analog-style gauges from the classic C200 and E200 models.
No Powertrain Tweaks—Purely a Style Statement
The Mustang’s powertrain is unchanged with the FX Package, but that’s not a dealbreaker for most enthusiasts. Available in both EcoBoost and GT guises, this package is more about paying homage to Mustang than chasing specs. Buyers still have a choice between a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the legendary 5.0-liter Coyote V8, depending on the trim level.
The package can be specified for coupe and convertible models, allowing fans to choose how they experience the nostalgia. Ford is offering the FX Package as a $2,495 add-on, and initial reports say it’ll be limited to about 1,500 units in U.S. markets.

The Fox Body Mustang has been a cult favorite in the marketplace for decades. It’s a loving homage to a pivotal time in the Mustang’s history. We wanted to pay tribute to that heritage and structure the new Fox-themed build in terms of what feels true to form and, in doing so, blend that with the modern ‘Stang’s performance and tech.
Launch Timeline and Availability
2026 Ford Mustang FX Package slated for showrooms in Q4 2025 as an early 2026 model year offering. Interest is already strong at Ford dealerships across North America, especially among collectors and older shoppers who recall their childhood with Fox Bodies.
Not a true Fox Body revival, but this package does convey the essence of that golden age—nostalgic, irreverent, and unapologetic. It’s not often that a modern car keys into something so emotionally resonant, and Ford appears to have nailed the execution.
