Sat in both—Atlas wins. More legroom, better comfort. Ascent’s third row? Fine for kids, not great for adults.
Ascent boasts an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ badge. Atlas is safe too, but Subaru plays the safety card better.
Atlas hauls way more. If you pack like you’re moving houses for a weekend trip, this one’s for you.
VW’s Digital Cockpit Pro feels slick and modern. Ascent’s gauges? Functional but not as exciting.
Atlas’ 41-ft turning circle makes tight spots tricky. Ascent is easier to handle in crowded parking lots.
Both have punchy turbos, but VW’s 8-speed shifts smoother than Subaru’s CVT. Makes a difference on long drives.
Subaru wins on powertrain coverage, VW counters with a longer bumper-to-bumper. Either way, repairs aren’t cheap!
No winner here. Both sip fuel at 20 city / 26 highway, so don’t expect big savings at the pump.
If I had to choose? The Atlas' space and tech win me over. But for AWD and rugged vibes, Ascent makes a solid case.
