2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone Special Edition Comes back with High Performance

For the 2025 model year, a car from the past is returning. Toyota is bringing back the GR86 Hakone special version as a salute to the Hakone Turnpike in Japan, near Tokyo.

  • Ridge Green is a bright colour that makes the GR86 Hakone special edition stand out. It was made to hit the streets in style.
  • The Hakone special version will be based on the GR86 Premium grade and come with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
  • It will be powered by a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder boxer engine that makes 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
  • The limited version will have 18-inch wheels finished in slick bronze, a colour-keyed duck-tail spoiler, black details, and a Hakone badge.

People can look forward to seeing the Hakone special version and all GR86 grades at Toyota stores in the fall of 2024. It will be announced later this year what the MSRP is for the GR86 Hakone special edition and all of the other GR86 2025 models.

Driving Performance Inspired by Toyota GAZOO Racing

The GR tech team is always looking for ways to use what they learn at the track to make the cars better. GR86 shock springs have been re-tuned for 2025 to help make the car easier to handle and give you a better sense of ground touch. The throttle mapping has been changed to make “blipping” easier. This is a motion that is often used in motorsports to do heel-toe downshifts. Also, engine torque control has been added to make the throttle reaction and predictability more direct. This makes the car easier to handle at all speeds. It feels like you’re in more direct touch with the road and the Electric Power Steering has been fine-tuned to make it easy to control.

The SACHS Dampers are made with high-pressure nitrogen and oil. They are meant to absorb waves at a wide range of speeds, make the most of ground contact, support firm, stable handling, and keep road input and ride comfort in check. It has red Brembo 4-piston front brake calipers and 2-piston rear brake calipers. The front rotors are 12.8 x 1.3 inches and the rear rotors are 12.4 x.79 inches.
