2027 Chevy Bolt Is Back: $28,995 EV Promises 255 Miles of Range and Tesla-Compatible Charging

Quick Highlights:

  • Starts at $28,995, making it the most affordable EV in America
  • 255 miles of range from a new 65-kWh LFP battery
  • 150-kW DC fast charging—nearly three times quicker than before
  • First Bolt with native Tesla NACS port and Super Cruise hands-free tech

The Chevy Bolt is back. And it doesn’t feel like a big comeback. It’s more like it grew up a bit. The small EV that showed you didn’t need a fortune to go electric is here again in 2027. Same goal: simple, useful, and a little smarter than before.

It left in 2023 after being the most popular non-Tesla EV. Now it’s back with better tech, slightly more range, and a price that actually works: $28,995. No gimmicks. No hype. Just a car that does what it’s supposed to.

Look at it, and it won’t surprise you. The stance is still upright and practical. The front has a new LED light bar, the grille is cleaner, and the lines flow a bit better. Out back, the taillights are new and the panels are smoother. It feels more modern without losing the look that made people like it. Chevy didn’t redo everything—it just fixed the details that needed it.

On the inside: Function Meets Fresh Tech

Enter and the Bolt is immediately more upscale. The cabin brings in dual-screen configuration that includes 11.3 inch touchscreen and 11 inch digital driver display both clear, sharp, and reactive. A pleasant surprise: it has physical climate controls, which is unusual in the current EV-screen-centric world.

Chevrolet has previously abandoned Apple carplay and Android auto, placing its infotainment responsibilities on Google Built-In. That is the access to Google Maps, Assistant, and Play native, as well as such apps as HBO Max, Prime Video, and even Angry Birds to spend the time when charging. An ingenious Super Cruise partnership with Google Maps displays live compatible paths in hands-free driving, which once again solidifies the tech-focused advantage of the Bolt.

More Range, Much Faster Charging

Under the skin, the 2027 Bolt adopts a 65-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, chosen for its lower cost and durability. Despite slightly lower energy density than traditional cells, it still delivers a respectable 255 miles of range—an 8-mile bump from the outgoing EUV.

The real leap comes in charging performance. With a new 150-kW DC fast-charging capability, the Bolt now charges from 10 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes—over twice as fast as the old car’s sluggish 55-kW limit. It’s also Chevrolet’s first vehicle to feature a native Tesla NACS port, unlocking seamless access to the ever-growing Supercharger network.

Chevy’s even gone a step further, adding vehicle-to-home (V2H) capability through GM Energy’s PowerShift system. In simple terms, your Bolt can now power your house during outages—a practical perk once reserved for luxury EVs.

Performance and Drive

The Bolt is not going to break any track records, but is reasonably lively as an urban-friendly EV. GM has added its own X76 drive unit that produces 210 horsepower (156 kW / 212 PS) and 169 lb-ft of torque (229 Nm) which is directed only to the front wheels. The motor is also smarter with segmented magnets and silicon carbide inverters so as to extract every drop of efficiency with minimal energy loss.

Chevy has also re-calculated the regenerative braking, so the regen to friction shift comes easier and more natural. One-Pedal Driving has survived, allowing the drivers to decelerate nearly completely without pressing the brake.

Super Cruise makes a comeback, this time with automated lane-change capability, on both LT and RS models on longer journeys. It takes hands-free driving to a whole new level as far as you can relax a bit more on the highways without losing control. The Bolt is not about thrill- it is about the confidence, efficiency and refined everyday driving experience that is more intelligent than its price implies.

Trims, Pricing and Production.

Chevy maintains the Bolt line as a straightforward and tactical one. The flagship vehicle, the Bolt LT, has a price starting with 29,990 and destination (not including taxes). It is equipped with the Comfort Package standard. The RS model features more sporty styling indicators, gloss-black wheels, and interior accents in red, starting at $32,995. An RS that is loaded with Tech Package and sunroof reaches a top price of $35,685.

There will then be an entry-level 1LT trim available later in 2026 at a price of $28,995, taking back the title of the Bolt as the lowest priced EV on the market in the U.S. All models will be produced out of GM Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas, and will enter production at the end of 2025, and dealer deliveries will start in the Q1 2026.

A Limited-Run Comeback

Interestingly, Chevrolet calls the 2027 Bolt a “limited-run model”, though production volumes won’t actually be capped. GM hints that it fast-tracked the Bolt’s return “to retain the nameplate a little longer,” implying that this revival might be short-lived—perhaps a bridge to a future Ultium-based entry EV.

Still, Chevy expects the Bolt and Equinox EV to make up the majority of its 2026 EV sales, proving that affordability still drives the electric revolution. In a market where many EVs now cost more than luxury sedans, the Bolt stands as a reminder that electric mobility can be smart, attainable, and genuinely American.

Verdict

Though the 2027 Chevy Bolt might not be a new model in terms of its range or power, its gains in areas it counts, charging, usability, and technology, makes it a star in its price group. It is more productive, highly equipped and is compatible with the Tesla charging ecosystem.

It has been a long time since EVs have become more and more expensive, so the Bolt returns like a PSA: the electric future does not have to be that much more expensive.
