New Porsche 911 Cup Race Car (992.2) Set for 2026 Supercup Debut

Quick Highlights:

  • New (992.2-gen) Porsche 911 Cup car to race in 2026 Porsche Supercup and Carrera Cups
  • Development started in January 2024, production begins fall 2025
  • Tested on Monza, Lausitzring, and Porsche’s own Weissach track
  • First Cup car built entirely with Porsche’s new high-performance eFuel

Porsche has officially confirmed that the next-gen 911 Cup race car, based on the updated 992.2 series, will hit the track in 2026. The car has nearly completed its development and will enter production this fall at Porsche’s main plant in Zuffenhausen.

Development kicked off back in January 2024, with Porsche refining almost every major area of the car. The focus this time wasn’t just on speed but also on drivability and feedback. According to Porsche Motorsport’s Jan Feldmann, the current GT3 Cup is already a solid performer, so the goal was to sharpen it further using feedback from one-make series teams around the world.

Upgrades include improved front-end aerodynamics for more stability, tweaks to the flat-six engine, better brakes and transmission response, and smarter vehicle electronics. Porsche wanted the new Cup car to feel more planted and easier to push consistently.

Real-world testing was carried out at tracks like Monza, the Lausitzring, and Porsche’s own Weissach proving grounds. Drivers included Bastian Buus, Klaus Bachler, Laurin Heinrich, and Marco Seefried, all seasoned racers with Cup and endurance backgrounds.

Another big change is the fuel. Every test run was done using Porsche’s new eFuel blend, the same one already approved for 2025 Porsche Supercup use. This fuel meets FIA’s new Appendix J rules for sustainable racing, with 79.7 percent of its content coming from renewable sources. Porsche says the switch to eFuel cuts CO₂ impact by 66 percent compared to traditional race gas.

The 992.2 Cup car replaces the outgoing 992.1 model, which first arrived in 2021. That version saw 1,130 units built and raced across 12 Carrera Cups, the Porsche Supercup, and more than 20 global Porsche Challenge series.

In total, Porsche has built over 5,300 Cup cars since launching the concept in 1990. With the 992.2 Cup set to arrive next year, it looks like that number will keep climbing.
